Spring Sun Relief: Top Vacation Areas

With most Americans experiencing harsh, cold winters, many people are looking forward to taking a sun-filled spring vacation. For people looking to chase sunrays, popular destinations include:

  • Faro, Portugal – Located on the shores of the beautiful Atlantic, Faro is close to the Spanish border, near Gibraltar. The capital of the Algarve region, this area features spectacular beaches and pristine coastlands. Home to a population of more than 40,000 people, this must-visit tourist destination is rich in history, architecture and scenery. Visitors should bring their sunglasses, as this region is the recipient of more than 3,000 hours of sunshine annually. As the southernmost city, Faro is also home to Estadio Algarve, a massive 30,000-seat stadium that is often used for events, concerts and festivals. Additionally, the area hosts the Faro International Motorcycle Rally, which is among the largest of its kind throughout all of Europe.
  • Perth, Australia – Nestled in Western Australia, this city situates on the Indian Ocean and boasts a massive population of 1.9 million. As the capital of Australia, the area includes pristine beaches and a convenient oceanside location.  This friendly city boasts more than 3,200 hours of sunshine annually, making it a top tourist destination in Australia. Just remember before visiting Australia, that their summers and winters are opposite of those in the U.S. This means that Perth experiences its warmest temperatures from December to late March. February is generally the warmest month of the year in Australia. The highest recorded temperature was in 1991 at a staggering 115.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Yuma, Arizona – For U.S. residents that don't want to travel internationally, Yuma features warm winters and hot summers. With an arid, desert climate, this area enjoys more than 4,100 hours of sunshine annually, making it the top sunny tourist destination. Close to both Mexico and California, this western-style town was featured in the movie "3:10 to Yuma." With a population of more than 200,000, it is estimated that 85,000 people only stay for the warm winters. With low rainfall and a dry climate, this region features sunshine nearly 90% of the time, averaging nearly 11 hours of sunshine per day. With less than four inches of rain annually, Yuma's highest recorded temperature dates to 1995 when it reached 124 degrees Fahrenheit.

When planning trips to sunny destinations, it's important that travelers bring sunglasses that offer UV protection. Faro and Perth are located near oceans, which means that sun reflections cast off bodies of water can cause eye sunburns.

Olympic Eyewear offers a wide variety of wholesale sunglasses, which are the perfect option for retailers. Their name brands include Choppers sunglasses, DG sunglasses and Biohazard sunglasses, to name a few.
