Local Festivals and Community Events
The warm weather brings people out into the community. Local festivals and community events usually kick off in earnest somewhere around Memorial Day weekend. Then all bets are off. In some communities, there is an event just about every weekend.
All these events have one thing in common: they seek out vendors willing to set up tables and booths. Why? Because event organizers know that vendors are a draw. They win when all their vendor tables are rented; you win once the event opens and the traffic starts coming.
We would suggest looking around for music shows, art festivals, food festivals, and the like. Be encouraged that these types of events are very affordable for vendors. It doesn't cost much to rent a booth or table for the weekend.
Flea Markets
If you have ever visited a flea market before, you know that sunglasses are a big item. Your average flea market is an outdoor affair that has people walking around in the hot sun for hours on end. Among the many shoppers are people who hastily left home and forgot to bring their sunglasses with him. Can you say, 'instant sales opportunity'?
One of the best things about flea markets is that people come ready and willing to spend. Very few people go to the market and expect to walk away empty-handed. The challenge for you is to get those customers to spend at your booth before they move on to the next one. Rest assured you will get plenty of opportunity to do so.
Pop-Up Shops
Our third and final suggestion for seasonal eyewear sales is the pop-up shop. Now, this option is not for everyone. It is best utilized by people who live near beaches, amusement parks, and other public places that draw large crowds. And then there is the matter of finding empty premises to set up your shop.
If you can manage it, pop-up shops have an advantage over traditional retail: novelty. Marketing a pop-up shop effectively will have people coming in the doors simply because they know the shop is not going to be around for too long. And that's fine, it doesn't need to be. You could do quite well in 4 to 6 weeks if you find the right location and have a solid marketing plan.
